While it is possible to resharpen the blades, they are relatively narrow which makes them hard to hold when using a whetstone or other sharpening device. Replacement blades for Makita planers are relatively inexpensive, so you may find it more convenient to replace the blades when you eventually need to.

You do not need any special tools to replace the blades, the blades are attached with 3 standard bolts that can be removed with a standard socket wrench.
